Remembrances of Jackie Meeks

Tim Sakkulich

I had the privilege of working with Jackie when I was serving as ML deputy and later director 2003-2006.  Jackie was not only a great admin professional, she was also a superb Wingman.  She was supremely proactive and efficient—a master at enabling the director and actually the entire front office team to be on time, on task, and on target with our attention.  Of course she had moments of unfiltered exasperation with "the system” and having to “fix” unreasonable requests or documents headed into the directors office. But that’s actually when Jackie was at her best, because inevitably she would just dive in, make it better and then use that as teaching points for the rest of the Directorate admin team. She set us all up for success and I have no doubt that she was a force of nature in her personal life as well.  Her death leaves an empty spot in the world, but also her spirit lives on in the people she supported and mentored along the way.

Charlie Browning

Jackie came into ML as my secretary.  Don’t know where she went after I retired. Heard her husband was also in ML after I left.  She was a youngster.

Dan McDermott

Sad to hear she passed away. She was a nice person.

Rita Scholes

I considered her a friend. She loved her son and made the front office a nicer place, just by her being there. Condolences for her family.

Jackie was a wonderful person and an excellent secretary.  Jackie was the secretary (or administrative assistant) for the RX director from sometime in the 1990’s (I think) until about 2011.   Therefore, she worked for Charlie Browning (who brought her into ML), Dave Walker, Col. Gary Konnert, and me (until  I paroled her, for good behavior,  to move into HR, if I remember correctly).  While I had many years in ML, she was invaluable to me as I moved back to the Air Force and into the director position. She kept me as organized and on-time as humanly possible, which many of you know was a huge challenge.  In addition to me, she supported others in the front office, which included Bob Rapson in his time as Chief Engineer. Jackie was always friendly and kind, and I really appreciated that she treated me well, no matter what my position in the organization was at any given time.   Another hard loss….
